Howard L. Thompson, Choirmaster

Howard L. Thompson has been an organist or Director of Music in many churches over his long career. A native of Alexandria, Virginia, he served as organist for the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church. After moving to Greenville, S.C. to attend Furman University, he was organist for the Greer United Methodist Church for 4 years. Mr. Thompson came to Waco in 1968 to begin his studies at Baylor University. He has served as organist or choir director at Calvary Baptist, 1st United Methodist in Marlin, Temple Rodef Shalom, 1st United Methodist of Hewitt and Austin Avenue United Methodist Church. Mr. Thompson came to St. Alban's in November of 2004.
He holds the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree from Furman University, the Master of Music degree in musicology from Baylor University and has done work toward the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Texas, Austin.
Mr. Thompson retired from the Texas public schools in 2005 after a career of 36 years as choral music director and as a fine arts administrator. He now teaches as an adjunct instructor at McLennan Community College along with his work at St. Alban's.
